❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about TrueCanadian, learning, and how to get the most out of your practice.

Learning & Practice

How do I start practicing?

On the Home page, choose a direction (English → French or French → English) and press Begin Practice.

Do I need an account?

You can browse pages without an account. Creating an account enables personalized features as we add progress tracking and saved preferences.

Why isn't the microphone practice available yet?

Mic practice and pronunciation scoring are part of the upcoming roadmap. We're shipping core lessons first, then adding speaking features once they're stable.

What kinds of vocabulary will I learn?

Everyday categories used in Canada: greetings, food, travel, shopping, family, weather, and more. The goal is practical speaking, not memorizing rare words.

Is this Canadian English or general English?

It's focused on English as used in Canada, including common real-life phrases and context. Content is designed to feel natural for Canadian conversations.

How do I sign out?

Click the profile circle in the top-right corner to open the menu, then click Logout.

Is TrueCanadian free?

Right now, the app is in an early build and the core practice content is available for free. If we introduce paid features later, we'll clearly label what's included.

What's the difference between English → French and French → English?

It changes the direction of practice. Choose the direction that matches what you want to produce (for example, English → French if you want to practice speaking French).

What devices does this work on?

TrueCanadian is a website, so it works on modern browsers on desktop, laptop, and mobile. For best results, use the latest Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.

Do I need to download an app?

No download needed. Just open the site in your browser and start practicing.

Can I use this offline?

Not currently. Lessons and account features require an internet connection.

Why do you recommend logging in?

Logging in helps us connect your activity to your account so we can support progress tracking and saved preferences as features roll out.

Why does sign up only accept Gmail or Outlook emails?

To reduce fake or throwaway signups during this early build, we currently allow common consumer email providers (like Gmail and Outlook). If you need another email domain, contact us and we can adjust it.

Can I sign up with Google?

Yes. On the Sign Up page, choose Sign up with Google to create an account using your Google login.

I forgot my password — how do I reset it?

Password reset isn't available in the UI yet. If you're locked out, use the Contact page and include the email you used to sign up.

Why do I need to verify my email?

Email verification helps confirm it's your account and reduces abuse. It also helps us support account recovery and notifications later.

I signed up but didn't get the verification email

Check your spam/junk folder first. If it's not there, wait a few minutes and try signing in again. If you still don't see it, message us via the Contact page.

Will you add pronunciation scoring?

Yes—pronunciation feedback and scoring are part of the roadmap. We're building reliable lesson flows first, then adding mic-based practice.

Which French is taught (France vs Canadian French)?

The goal is practical French for Canadian life. Some vocabulary and phrasing will align with what you'll commonly hear in Canada.

Do you teach Quebec French slang?

Not heavily right now. We focus on common, widely understood phrases first. More regional expressions may be added later as optional content.

How accurate are the translations?

We aim for natural, everyday phrasing. If you spot something that sounds off, please tell us—feedback is how we improve the lesson quality.

Will my progress be saved across devices?

That's the goal. As progress tracking rolls out, signing in will let you keep your progress when you switch devices.

Why don't I see my profile menu?

The profile circle appears only when you're logged in. If you just signed up, try refreshing the page or logging in again.

Something looks broken on my screen

Try refreshing the page and updating your browser. If it still happens, tell us what device + browser you're using and what page you were on.

Can I delete my account?

Account deletion isn't available in the UI yet. If you want your account removed, contact us and include the email you used.

How can I request a new category or topic?

Use the Contact page and tell us what category you want (for example: workplace, healthcare, housing). We prioritize requests that help the most learners.

How do I report a bug or incorrect lesson?

Send a message via the Contact page with the page name and what you expected to happen. Screenshots help a lot.
